Arsenicum
Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 11:48AM The homeopathic remedy Arsenicum album, or “white arsenc”, is made from elemental arsenic that has been heavily diluted. In industry, arsenic is used to preserve wood, make certain metallic alloys and is even used in electronics.
In medicine, arsenic sees little use these days. Decades ago, it was used to fight infections like syphilis and parasitic protozoa. Today, arsenic is most often used to fight cancers that are resistant to other treatment regimens.
The Arsenicum Physiology
Arsenicum people are most notable for the extreme fatigue they feel. They are not sleepy; they are simply utterly and completely exhausted.
Arsenic conditions are also often accompanied by searing, burning pains. Almost always, these pains are confined to the right side of the body and are much worse in the wee hours of the pre-dawn morning. These folks also tend feel very cold. Cold weather greatly exaggerates their symptoms.
The Arseniucm Psychology
The arsenicum personality is characterized by a fixation on cleanliness and neatness. They are the “cleanies” and the “neat freaks” among us. Their homes are neat and tidy before they go to bed for the night and any mess that appears during the day is addressed without hesitatiaon.
This fastidiousness extends to their personal appearance, as well. Like many other personality types described in homeopathic texts, arsenic personalities crave attention. What sets these souls apart is that the attention they receive must be indirect and subtle. Arsenic personalities cannot stand to be studied or looked at closely.
Arsenic in Homeopathic Medicine
Arsenic is most often used in cases where some type of poisoning has occurred. Food poisonings, ingestion of toxic substances and bites or stings are all conditions for which arsenicum might be employed.
Arsenicum would be be considered in any condition accompanied by extreme exhaustion and intense feelings of cold, especially if any bodily discharge burned or stung the skin.
