Pulsatilla
Friday, September 18, 2009 at 6:00AM The remedy homeopathy calls pulsatilla is actually a group of flowers—not just one—in the genus Pulsatilla. Also known as pasque flower, pulsatilla in large does can cause severe vomiting, dangerously low blood pressure and even coma or death.
In homeopathy, though, remedies made from pulsatilla are among the most-commonly prescribed for acute illnesses.
The Pulsatilla Physiology
Pulsatilla patients have a tendency to suffer roaming pains that seem to meander throughout the body. These folks tend to avoid heat and quick movements. Of peculiar note is the tendency of pulsatilla people to have pain only on one side of the body at a time.
Pulsatillas are light water drinkers who prefer cool weather. However, they are not fond of extreme cold, either and will even shun very cold foods like ice cream or frozen ice deserts. They have a variety of digestive complaints and may excrete copious amounts of colored mucous after eating certain foods.
The Pulsatilla Personality
The pulsatilla personality is often described as “needy” and “overly sensitive”. Pulsatilla people often come across as mopey or depressed with a great deal of self-pity. They crave attention and will cling to anyone who lends a sympathetic ear. Unfortunately, their whining indecisiveness and tendency to bow to the opinions of others also make them seem weak and immature.
Fear of the dark and fear of being alone are both classic pulsatilla symptoms in homeopathy.
Pulsatilla in Homeopathic Medicine
Pulsatilla is one of the most commonly-prescribed of all the homeopathic remedies when it comes to acute infections like cold or flu. It is usually the first remedy given but is generally discontinued if symptoms progress or change.
